Keep Halloween Fun, Visible and Safe!

MAXIMIZE VISIBILITY

  • Wear reflective gear: Add reflective tape, glow sticks, or light-up accessories to costumes so drivers can see you.
  • Carry a flashlight: Use a flashlight or headlamp to illuminate your path and help drivers see you.
  • Keep masks out of the way: Avoid masks that restrict vision. Use face paint or makeup that allows clear peripheral and downward vision.

ROUTE AND WALKING SAFETY

  • Visit well-lit homes: Stick to homes with lights on and avoid dark or unfamiliar properties.
  • Use sidewalks: Avoid dark shortcuts, unlit yards, and alleys where trip hazards may be difficult to see.
  • Face traffic: If no sidewalk is available, walk on the far-left side of the road facing oncoming traffic.
  • Cross safely: Use crosswalks and intersections, look both ways, and make eye contact with drivers when possible.

GROUP AND BEHAVIOR RULES

  • Stay together: Children should trick-or-treat with a responsible adult or trusted older teen. Always keep the group together.
  • Put phones away: Stay alert and watch for traffic, curbs, uneven pavement, and decorations.
  • Check treats before eating: Have an adult inspect candy and treats at home. Discard anything unwrapped, damaged, or suspicious.
